Dear Therapist: Are you Stressed-Out by The Upcoming Holiday Season?

For many therapists, holidays are a time of excitement and pleasant memories. Recalling family warmth, delicious meals, and enjoyable conversations foster the yearning to experience this yet again.

However, not all therapists look forward to the holidays. A whole host of pressures, conflicts, and stresses, and the fear of overwhelm can easily replace that joy and excitement with a sense of dread.

If you’re one of the latter, you are probably feeling trapped because there is nothing you can do to avoid this encroaching problem, and guilty for not being excited like everyone else about what is supposed to be a joyous time.

Therapist of the Month

Erika Riddell, M.S. CCC-SLP

Erika is a wonderful team player who has been going above and beyond for her caseload this year. She only took off 2 weeks for her maternity leave and jumped back into work. She has been providing therapy services to students and conducting evaluations for other per diem therapists when they were over their hours. She has been with GT for 3 years and has always maintained a positive attitude, communicated with GT staff, and asked for support when needed.

Here’s a little more about Erika:

I am a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in California. Earning my B.S. in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology from Brigham Young University pushed me to pursue the field further and get my SLPA degree from California State University, Northridge. I then received my M.S. in Speech Language Pathology from California State University, San Marcos. In the past I have worked in early intervention (ages 1-3) with the San Diego Regional Center. I also worked with preschool and school-age (K-8) students at brick and mortar schools in a high needs and bilingual school district. I had the opportunity to work with clients that needed additional speech help due to a cleft lip/palate. After having my first child, I started in the field of teletherapy with Global. I have enjoyed working in teletherapy and have especially loved working with the California Virtual Academy schools. This year, I have helped other colleagues in traditional settings adapt to remote work and provide services via teletherapy in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. I feel grateful that I was able to seamlessly continue doing the work I love from home. When not working, I enjoy spending time at the beach with my husband, daughter (2.5 years) and son (4 months).

School of the Month

Congratulations to Granite Mountain Charter School for being awarded December School of the Month! They are very organized, on top of any concerns, flexible, responsive, and a pleasure to work with across the board! Therapists are all happy with the staff and find that everyone is communicative and there to assist as best as possible.
